I just want to learn Visual Basic.... Can't find "Windows Application' Template

Hello all,
I am trying to re-learn programming after a long hiatus, so I decided to start with the newest version of Visual Basic(VisualBasic 2005). I am trying the 'Create Your First Application' Tutorial, and it tells me to go to File>New Project and choose 'Windows Application'. This isn't an available choice... My choices are: 'Class Library', 'My Movie Collection Starter Kit', 'Screen Saver Starter Kit', and 'Search Templates'. Am I supposed to download the 'Windopws Application' template from somewhere('Search Templates' turned up no results.)? Is this my first test to see if I am worthy of using a Microsoft product? Or am I the lone person to suffer from an issue like this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, since I'm going nuts to start, but can't do anything unless I can get through the first tutorial...

Thank you.

HI,

Im still using Whidbey Beta 1. (still downloading 43% of Express) I tried creating a new windows app and it works perfectly... Must be something with your installation... consider reinstalling...
cheers,

I agree with the other reply. It must be a faulty installation. Its one of the basic templates thats already available.

Thanks guys, I'll try the re-install and see if that fixes it. Good to know that it shows up for other people...

Hey, I just installed VC# Express and I have the same problem. Did you solve your's? What did you do? (I already did a complete deinstallation and installed again - no success!)

I think you may just be looking in the wrong place. When you create a new project there is a tree of items. Try clicking around in different parts of the tree list until you find the Windows Application.

I have exactely the same problem but in the beta 2 install of Visual Studio 2005, when trying to create a new project.
To date I have found the only way around this is to do a repair of the install (long time!) and the option to create a new "visual Basic" project returns.

The removal of this option in the new projects box may, I think, be related to either;
- removal of certain links using a registry cleaner (system mechanic 5 pro). Answer is to clean and then do a scan immediately afterwards and opt to keep the invalid links protected.
- using visual studio 2003 (which I have installed on a separate partition but in parallel and have opened in between uses of VS 2005)

Not sure if this helps!

Richard
