How to activate if no internet connection is available on machine

Hi

Please let me know how to activate the Visual Basic 2005 Express Beta 2 for the machine, which does not have an internet connection. I downloaded the beta from my office system and then after burning a CD i installed it at my home. Please let me know as soon as possible as the trial period has expired.

Thank you

Sandy

Can't register my product. Why limit the tool's developer audience to those that have internet connections only?

Sandy -

Unfortuantely, for Beta2 it is not possible to register the Express editions on a machine that is not connected to the internet. Note that you can use a modem connection to register.

We are currently looking at options for improving this situation for the final release of the Express products. The most likely option at this point is that registration will be optional when installing from a CD. We'll let you know what the final decision is closer to release.

Hello,

I have been wondering if there might be a way to register and activate Visual C# Express 2005 without an internet connection. I'm downloading a copy that I'd like to burn to CD, so that I can take it home to my non-internet connected computer, so that I can do some development on it.

Also, I don't have the ability to install it at the location on whose computers I'm downloading/burning the software.

If there is a safe way for me to register/activate the software, I'd be greatly appreciative. I suppose that I could conceivably bring my box into my training center, and solve the problem that way, but I don't want to do that unless I really have no alternative.

Also, one other question... Does the software expire? If so, when?

Thanks in advance for any advice that you can provide,

B Turner

I've merged a number of similar questions into this thread so that we can keep the questions and answers in a single place.

To answer a few of your other questions:
1) There is no offline activation avaialble, such as by phone.
2) Activation keys are unique to your computer and user, so you can't get an activation on one machine and bring it to another.

The bottom line is that for Beta2, you really will need to be connected to the Internet to activation Express. As I mentioned in my other post, for the final product, we are working on making this less restrictive.

The decision to make Express unavailable to non-internet connected users is unhelpful in the extreme, however my problem is slightly different. I am posting this from the machine concerned (so I clearly have an internet connection) but the page my browser gets directed to when I try to register cannot be found. Is this something which will clear up, or is there some incompatibility between the post data and my university's proxy?

Having similar problem. Links go no where even though I have internet connection.
Is there a site where I can go and have it detect the installation and register the product?
Thanks in advance.

I had this problem.

It turned out that my browser security features was the problem.

I added an allow for cookies(w/prompt) and after I ok-ed the cookie the registration completed.{In IE: Tools, Internet Options, Privacy, Advance}

I received my key in the email I gave durring registration.

Good Luck,
