Unable to connect to Access database

Hi, I just installed VS 2005 team suite and was unable to access the Northwind database through add a connection wizard. The message I got when attempting to connect to it through Jet or ODBC was Unable to add data connection. Could not load type Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.InterOp.IVsProjectDataConnection from assembly MicrosoftVisualStudio.Shell.Interop.8.0, Version=8.0.0.0, culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken= etc.' I did not set up admin rights to the Northwind database and so erased the Admin as user and left the password field blank. I was able to succeed in a test connection.

Does anyone know what this means or how I can work around this? Was the install somehow corrupted? Do I just need to do it in code or does this message suggest that that might not work also. I'm new to assemblies.

Thanks to all in advance!

Sincerely, Phil Berkhof

Sounds like the install was corrupted.

Did you follow the following instructions for uninstall previous versions:

http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/vs2005/uninstall/

Is is important that you run the tool linked on that page also:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=47065

Since I installed (previous to the current, poorly functioning install) already, I presume that I will have to follow these instructions exactly on the current install, then use the clean up tool to get rid of any problems occasioned by the previous, poorly executed install.

Thanks David!
