Team Foundation Client - empty help

Help comes up blank. I've looked around and it APPEARS that the help has been installed on the system, but apparently the help system can't find it. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure exactly the problem you're running into ... I can see help, although none of the help topics I've tried have anything associated with them ... is that the problem you're having? I'm guessing that help is not ready for primetime.

Here's some links that I found "helpful" (no pun intended):

Here's the VSTS Documentation Page:

http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/teamsystem/workshop/content/default.aspx

Here's the online version of the help (As it exists at this point):

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/library/fda2bad5(en-us,vs.80).aspx

If those aren't germane to your question, you can try this instead:

http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/showforum.aspx?forumid=66

Hope that helps!

I don't even get the topics, as if the main help file itself is missing. It looks like that stuff is copied to the installation, but for some reason Help doesn't seem to be aware of it.

The links you provided are helpful. Thanks.

Daniel -

Would you please tell me more about your setup and some other info -

- What is installed where (single-server, dual-server, client on same box as any of the server products)?
- Are you using Team Foundation Client (Team Explorer), or did you install Visual Studio Team Suite?
- Did you explicitly install MSDN Library afterwards?
- How are you accessing the docs?
- Can you send me a screenshot (my e-mail alias is robcaron)?

Rob;

XP Pro, Team Foundation Client (not Team Suite) (VS2k3 is installed as well), TFS is a remote, single-server installation. I do not recall specifically running an MSDN installation after the TFC installation, and my notes don't record any such thing. I've just checked the installation disk (TFS) and there is nothing to the effect of needing to do so anywhere I can find in the install process or on the disk... nor do I find an MSDN install on the disk. Should that be installed off the Team Suite disk? If so, it's not specified anywhere.

Items off the Help menu have following results:

How Do I: Error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

Contents: Nothing.

Index: Index tab comes up, but there is nothing in the main list, nor anything in the "Filtered by:" drop-down or the "Look for" text box.

Help on Help: Dialog comes with only choice to "Use online help as primary source." Click OK. Help window does populate with "Help on Help (Microsoft Document Explorer Help)" with links to Beta Library etc. After this you can access the online help in this way, but nothing else changes.

Until I figured out the 'help on help' thing just a few minutes ago, I wasn't accessing the documentation anywhere.

Unfortunately, you need to install MSDN Library separately - it's its own setup. You can find the setup for MSDN on the Visual Studio Team Suite DVD. In future releases, MSDN will be included on the Team Foundation Server disc and it will be an option to install from the launcher screen. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks Rob. Installed MSDN off the VSTS disk, and contents and index work fine now. Still an 'object reference' error with "How Do I", but this is a great improvement (I almost hardly ever use "How Do I" anyway <g>).
