VSTS Beta 2 -> RTM migration story
It's known that there will be changes from Beta 2 to RTM, including schema changes in the database. It's also known that various MSFT teams and TAP participants are using VSTS in a production environment today.
Presumably those internal and close teams are going to get some support for migrating their Pre-RTM repositories to the RTM product, or they wouldn't have agreed to be using VSTS in production today.
So what's the story for the rest of us? I've read that officially there's not going to be any supported migration tool, yet it seems that such a tool will likely be created. Can we expect to see a tool show up as an unsupported download somewhere, or are we to be left out in the cold?
Hello!
I too would be interested to know if support will be provided to customers who used Visual Studio Team System Beta 2 as development tool and who wishes to migrate to the official release of VSTS in november.
Also, in the same order of idea, what kind of support is provided if we need to change the domain of the Visual Studio Team Foundation Server? Or more simply, just change a project from one Team Server to another?
Our current setup is entirely on a virtual lan with its own domain. What will happen if we want to bring back the Team Server to the our real company domain?
As Carl mentions having read elsewhere, there will not be a tool to convert from beta 2 to a newer release of TFS. Yes, we have to convert our own dogfood server, but that's a controlled environment and there's a lot of manual work. We understand the pain, but it's one of the key reasons there was no go-live license for TFS in beta 2.
I'm not sure what it takes to change the domain of TF server, but it will certainly be different now due the changes we've made since beta 2, including removing AD/AM.
There's no tool to migrate a team project from one server to another. I don't believe this will be in RTM for v1.
