How to create an Architectural Prototype?
Activity number 5 of the Create Solution Architecture Workstram is the Creation of an Architectural Prototype. As I have no samples of this I'm not sure of what do I have to do here. Is this the place to decide which will be the core components of my architecture? Is this the place where I decide to use for example the Enterprise Library for data access and exception management? Or decide to use WSE 3.0 versus Indigo? Or maybe LINQ for data access?
Does anyone has a sample of what is meant by an Architectural Prototype?
Hi Julio,
This is a great question and the examples that you cite are right on the money. As architects, we are often asked, should I use WSE 3.0 or Indigo? If you have no experience in this area, how do you know how to answer this question? Spend a day or two writing a prototype using Indigo to find out if it will handle your load. Since you are responsible (see the MSF version 4 Team Model) for advocating the "solution in the large", it is important to understand the technological impact of these sorts of trade offs. This activity gives you a vehicle for making hands on decisions. Remember, keep the efforts short.
Cheers,
Randy
