Download image and CSS

Hi,

For the gadget that I'm developing (sort of an RSS reader), I'd like the gadget to download a new version of the background image I use in the main window, and also of the CSS. These 2 files (image and CSS) are available via HTTP.

Can this be done? If so, can anyone point me in the right direction...?
Is it also possible to have it check if the version online is different from the version currently in the images folder?
