IPv4 config problem

Vista was working before 5231. Installed 5231, not only it has lost the network config (wireless) settings...I assign static ip 10.0.0.109 with 255.255.255.0
a) it does not do any TCP networking whatsoever
b) Connection Status (and ipconfig at command) says IP Address 169.254.30.222 with 255.255.0.0

How come......?

Hi Travis,

The IP 169.254.xxx.xxx with subnet 255.255.0.0 is the "Automatic Private IP" designated to your system by Windows if no network / DHCP is detected. Before assigning your static IP please release your IP (ipconfig /release) and give the static IP. Hope this works

What technology are you using to secure your wireless access point? WEP, WPA? What kind of access point is it, are you able to connected with Windows XP?
