DSL Tools Licensing
Hello,
We are currently developing our own custom modeling language base on the VS DSL Tools.
We understand we (as an ISV) need full Visual Studio 2005 DSL Tools licence but what will be the license requirements if an end-user uses our custom modeling languageinside Visual Studio 2005?
- Visual Studio 2005: which version (or SKU)?
- VSIP or VSIP redistribuable. In this case shall he need ay licence)?
- DSL Tools or DSL Tools redistribuable?
Thanks a lot,
Omid.
End-Users of designers developed with the DSL Tools will need to have Visual Studio Standard Edition or above (e.g. Professional, ...) to run the new designer.
The DSL Tools will become one of the VS SDK (VSIP) SDKs. So building and distributing the designer is the same procedure as with other VS packages.
Please see http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/extend/ for all details like license terms incl. the redistribution license, the required VS Package Load Key for your product, etc.
The link http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/extend/vsipoverview/ with the details about the VSIP program shows another way to redistribute products based on the DSL Tools: Members of the Premier Partner program can license and distribute the VS Premier Partner Edition as a shell for the DSL Tools-based designer. In that case the end-user doesn't need to have a Visual Studio product like the Visual Studio Standard Edition installed.
