Windows Mobile Device Driver Update

When I attempt to install the Windows Mobile Device program (the Vista version of ActiveSync), the setup goes half-way through the "Gathering required information" status , and then reads:

A network error occured while attempting to read from the file:
C:\Users\Alex\Downloads\drvupdate-x86[1].msi

Since I'm pretty new to Vista, what is the solution to this problem?

The operating system is Windows Vista Enterprise. Does that make a difference?

No i dont think the version of vista makes much differences... i am currently running on vista home premium and i am facing the same problem when i was installing my O2 Xda atom... i think its either a common bug or its just that the file that we download are corrupted... i get the driver to run after few rounds of downloads of the driver.... hope that will help...

Tried installing normally
-Freezes at 'gathering information'

Unpacked MSI and installed
-Installs but do not see icon in control panel
-"Windows mobile device center" appears in control panel
-Opening WMDC from Start Menu... nothing happens (WMDC does not run)

Downloaded again & installed from MSI
-Installs but do not see icon in control panel
-"Windows mobile device center update" appears in control panel
-Opening WMDC from Start Menu... nothing happens (WMDC does not run)
-Tried doing a "check for updates" in windows update, WMDC does not appear magically in control panel contrary to some claims...

Does anyone have any suggestions?
