Project Local Directory: Difficulty Staging Business Data with Commerce Server Staging

I’m trying to use Business Data Staging through Commerce Server Staging, but I am having problems configuring Business Data Staging - I can get Web Content Staging to work fine.

I’m confused with the “Project Local Directory” (a required field) for “Business Data Staging” in Commerce Server Staging.

The “Project Local Directory” is understandable for Web Content Staging, as it would point to the root of the Web Application. But, I can’t make sense of the “Project Local Directory” in Commerce Server Staging for “Business Data Staging” Projects.
I’m under the impression that “Business Data Staging” Projects depend on Commerce Server resources and *not* folders or files.

Why is “Project Local Directory” a required field, if “Business Data Staging” relies on Commerce Server resources?

What is the “Project Local Directory” option typically used for when configuring a Business Data Staging Project? Could someone provide an example?

What data should the “Project Local Directory” point to in a Business Data Staging Project?

Here's a related reference from MSDN:Project Properties, Project Tab

Hi there,

For a business data project, the Project Local Directory is simply a transfer location of where an XML "job" file is created for the business data to be staged. Since CSS relies upon the underlying Commerce Server subsystems to import / export data, this XML file defines what will be staged.

This directory should just be somewhere on the CSS server that has been created and the CSS service has permissions to.

Hope that helps!

John,

Thanks for the reply.

My initial problem was as follows:

In the Commerce Server Staging (CSS)
In the Project tab
I was assuming that the Source Site and Project Local Directory were related - the Source Site textbox is located directly above the Project Local Directory in the UI, it seemed logical that the two be related.
I was assuming that the Project Local Directory had to be resolved to the Source Site local directory, which resulted in something like this:
Source Site = "StarterSite"
Project Local Directory = "C:\Projects\StarterSite"

Through a great deal of trial and error, and overwriting a couple projects. I finally figured out that there is no relation between the two fields. I only wish you could have helped me out a month ago. :)

Thanks again,
