Customize MOSS 2007 portal Server without unghosting

Hi guys:

This is my first question in this forum. Recently the company when i work for wants to update from SPS 2003 to MOSS 2007. I'm worried about if there's a way to customize the MOSS 2007 content pages without unghosting the portal pages. I don't have Sharepoint Designer 2007 for now because i don't have enough licenses. But i want to modify the master pages/layout content without make the page unghosted. Is there a way to do this?. or, is there some information about how to do this with/without SPD 2007?

Thanks in advance

As with SPS2003 you can always modify the underlying files that make up MOSS directly. Some things to remember

  1. Any updates can overwrite this changes
  2. You would need to make these changes on every server in the farm
  3. These changes would affect EVERY page that uses this file (including different portals on the same server)
  4. MS may frown on doing this

Hi Mr Bushey

First of all thanks for your post. I have one more question about this. Is MOSS 2007 /WSS 3.0 makes changes to the Active Directory Schema?

Thanks again and hope you have a nice day

No it doesn't! Otherwise you would need Forest admin privileges to install it.
