Why I can't see LLTD probe packets on network?

Hi, I have a PC with Vista and I start qWAVE. Also I install a LLTD responder on my laptop with XP. When I view the full network map, I can catch LLTD packets on my laptop with ethereal. But when I use a Netgear EVA700 to play video on Vista PC, I can't catch LLTD probe packets on network. Why?The Netgear EVA700 is a media player support WMC, but without LLTD responder. As I know, although the Netgear player can't repond the LLTD probe packets, the Vista PC will send LLTD probe packets before sending video stream to the player.

Whether there's a PC software which can be installed on a PC and acts as a digital media player to play videos on Vista Media Center?

Windows Media Player does not use qWAVE adaptive capabilities (which leverage LLTD). Rather, WMP only uses qWAVE for non-adaptive capabilities, i.e. basic prioritization via DSCP and 802.1p (if the network path supports it). In Vista, the Media Center application uses qWAVE adaptive capabilities when streaming to Xbox 360 (which implements the LLTD Responder). You will see LLTD frames in this scenario.

If you want to do testing of your own, you can download the Windows Vista SDK and install the sample code. You will find a Qos2 (qWAVE) sample application which uses adaptive capabilities and as such sends LLTD frames onto the network.

Hope this helps,

Gabe
