Class Details window (MSDN bug ID: FDBK24857)

I'm having a problem with the Class Details window. Click on the following link to see the corresponding bug details:

http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/ProductFeedback/viewFeedback.aspx?feedbackid=914d3c3f-efdd-41ed-8c6c-da5ed91f48db

When I click on a class in the Class Designer, the Class Details window shows up, docked at the bottom of the screen. But when I click inside the Class Details window, it dissapears! Every time.

I tried to reset all my settings, tried all different possible settings and even re-installed VS 2005. No luck!

Please helpSad

Hello Joachim,
As we mentioned in the bug we are unable to reproduce this problem.

What is environment are your running Whidbey Beta 2? Does this happen to any other tool window? Could you try if this happens on an Endpoint Details Window in the Application Designer?

Thanks,
Ramesh.

Another thing you can try is in VS cmd window, type in "devenv /resetuserdata". This will back out to default user setting, and probably will fix your problem.

Hi Ramesh

I'm running Whidbey Beta 2, on WinXP.

I checked other tool windows and I'm having the same problem with "Settings and Constrains", "Web Service Details" and "System View" tool windows in the Application Designer.

Whenever I click on the surface of any of these tool windows, they disappear. I have to click outside the Application Designer (i.e. the Properties window) and then back on the diagram to get them back!

Other tool windows, e.g. Output, Task List or Command Window, work fine. Only the Designers' specific tool windows don't.

I also tried command "devenv /resetuserdata" suggested by Yu Xiao but with no luck.

Thanks,
Joachim

I have just found that in Application Designer, I can select an application and in the Properties window, under Configuration, I can click the little button next to Settings and Constrains option.

The Settings and Constrains window shows up and stays open when I click on it. Unfortunately there is no such option for Web Service Details, System View window or Class Details in the Class Designer.

Joachim,
Thanks for the additional info. We will try to figure out what may be the cause for the behavior you are seeing. In the meanwhile, it will be interesting to find out if any one else using the designer is seeing this issue.

Joachim,
One other thing - what user settings (General, C#, etc.) did you choose when you ran the IDE for the first time?

Thanks,
Ramesh Rajagopal.

Ramesh

When I run VS2005 Beta 2 for the first time, I chose the C# user settings.

Strange. This seems to be an issue with the tool window autovisibility. But unfortunately we haven't seen this in house. I have emailed to see if there was a similar issue earlier and had later been fixed but I haven't heard back from anyone.

Hi Joachim,
Unfortunately no one internally seems to have run into the issue that you are describing. It will be interesting to see if anyone else in this forum has seen this issue to try to narrow down the problem. One other thing you may try is to install a recent CTP - July CTP may be and see if you still run into this issue.

Thanks,
Ramesh Rajagopal.

I have the same problem. The class details window dissappears every time I click on it. The entire Designer is useless if you can't give the details window focus.

Hi,
Did you just install Beta 2 and noticed this behavior? Is it possible to give your configuration? Did you install Beta 2 on a machine which already had Beta 1? Any information regarding your configuration, user settings you selected etc. would be helpful to diagnose this issue.

Thanks,
Ramesh Rajagopal.

Hi,
I'm having the same problem with the Class Details window in VS2005 Final on WinXP sp2. I used to have Beta2 installed, but removed it prior to installing the final version.

Thanks. We are investigating this issue. Any information on other info like the development settings (General/VB/C#/C++) you have (the option you chose when you first ran VS) will help us track this issue down.

C#-settings, Class Diagram added to a C# project. Here is another observation: After working in some other windows, like the code-view, I actually managed to enter the class details window and modify its details. However, If I first click on the diagram, the details window is useless, because it dissapears.

Hope this helps.
