TFS SP1 fails to install on build server

Hi All,

I'm attempting an upgrade of my TFS installation and the SP1 patches fail when I run them on my build servers. A dialog pops with the following:

"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrage patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct patch."

So is TFS SP1 (VS80sp1-KB926738-X86-ENU.msp) supposed to run on the build servers? If not then the "TFSInstall-v61230.chm" needs to be updated because it indicates to do install the patch.

Shawn,

The patch you refer to should install on a build server. Can you run the tool from the following link and send me the results?

http://www.huydao.net/setup/msiinv.zip

The command line should be: msiinv.exe -p > MsiInventory.txt

Thanks,
Ed

I have the same problem. I have a clean install of XP with SP2 and with the build server. I receive the same error when I attempt to install SP1.
I have not come upon a solution.

Is you box fully patched and updated? We have resolved our problem on our 3rd attempt. On this attempt we fully patched and updated our XP machine. Then we installed TFS Build and then installed SP1 without problems.

OS is up to date patch-wise (running on Win2k3 sp1).

Did you connect to Microsoft and run windows update? I am guessing the source of the problem is that we did not have the newest windows installer installed on our server.
