With TFPT1.2 still edit work item type definition XML in VS2005?

With Power Tools 1.2 Process Template editor installed, is there a Visual Studio configuration switch or way of viewing that allows me to edit the XML directly? I like the easier-than-cmdline importing and the layout preview, but i still want to edit the xml directly. Especially when a certain new condition needs to be set on most of the fields, eg, a When...Required condition.

You can still use the "Process Template Manager" that shipped with V1 under the "Team" menu to download a process template to a local dir, edit it, then upload it again. That's what I (still) do for modifying my VersionControl.xml :)

I think i deleted what you refer to as V1 when preparing to install TFPTV1.2. By V1 i think you mean the old process template editor available from gotdot.net, the one that doesn't integrate so much with VS. I could no longer find the link to the download of it. Do you know where i can get it now?

Thanks,

Markus

Here's the link to the PTE before it shipped with TFPT1.2, although i haven't tried to install it along with or without TFPT1.2 on my box.

Sorry for the number of replies last week ... but there seemed to be problems on the server?! I couldn't see my original reply, therefore I posted again.

You can open a work item type XML file as "plain" XML the following way:

  • Use command 'File/Open/File...'

  • Select your WIT file

  • Select the "Open With..." command instead of "Open"

  • Use the "XML Editor with Encoding" and click OK

  • "(Auto-Detect)" for encoding should work for you

...and the file opens in an XML-Editor inside Visual Studio rather than the new Process Editor.

BTW - running the old Process Template Editor and the new Process Editor works fine on my system as well.
