UPDATED 3/19 - Re: Search from main page requires login?

1. On my site (http://ardl.k12.ar.us), if a visitor wants to search using the box at the top of the page (This Site: DL Portal), the system prompts for a login to see the results. It was not always this way, and I have no idea what might have changed. Where do I check permissions on the results page for the main page of a site?

2. Why do I only have "This Site: DL Portal" in my drop-down? I even created new scopes that I specifically said to appear in the drop-down to see if I could 'force' some other option, but my created ones do not appear anywhere (not even in search center). Any ideas?

Thanks!

Okay, after a lot of poking and prodding, I have reached the conclusion that the "My Site:" portion of the drop-down REQUIRES the user to log in. So, I pose the following follow-up question:

How do you set the permissions such that Anonymous users can do a "This Site:" search?

Thanks!

Well, so far, I have managed to answer most of this myself, for whatever that's worth.... Turns out I found a solution for the drop-down, and I hope it helps other folks, too: http://blogs.msdn.com/markarend/archive/2006/10/13/workaround-for-broken-search-controls-in-b2tr.aspx

In a nutshell, go to the Site Settings for the site. Then, click on Search Settings. From there, copy the default address for search restults and paste it into the 'use a custom page' field. Voila!

Now, I still need help with PERMISSIONS on searching from the main site page (/Pages/Default.aspx) to the result pages located at http://ardl.k12.ar.us/_layouts/OSSSearchResults.aspx?k=art%20history&cs=This%20Site&u=http%3A%2F%2Fardl.k12.ar.us

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am also running into this issue and it's driving me nuts. I have a site configured for anonymous access but when you try to search on it, you get hit up for domain credentials. Additionally, I specified a default search results location and Sharepoint is ignoring that setting and redirecting me to an OSSearch/layouts page for the results...arg!
