Top Link Navigation Disappears after activating SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure
Symptoms: When you create a new site, the Navigation section is missing. Also, under Site Settings, Look and Feel, the "top link bar" is missing.
Known issue found here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925974 but this is not the only symptom nor do the steps fix the other problems about adding new sites to navigation or editing top link bar.
I wanted to create a Search Center with tabs, and was instructed to activate the publishing infrastructure. After activating the infrastructure my "HOME" tab set itself to "\". I can change the tab text by editing the title of the page - solving that problem. But the infrastructure activation also seems to turn off all ability to add new sites or pages to the top link navigation bar, and it also turns off the ability to edit the top link navigation bar.
If you deactivate the Publishing Infrastructure, the top link navigation bar resets itself and you are able to edit the top link navigation, as well as when you add sites you are given the option to add it to the top link bar.
Any workarounds, hotfixes or advice for this as I'd really like to implement the Search Center with Tabs to allow users to search the user profiles I've imported from Active Directory.
Thanks!
