Creating new folder in Sharepoint 2007 - metadata columns show up - any way to remove them?

I have a document library with a handful of columns configured for it. I am saying to show the new folder button on the toolbar. When I create a new folder, it is asking me for the columns I have set up. Is there any way to not have metadata show up when I am creating a folder?

I created a new document library. Created a single extra column on it called test. Tried adding a document. Was prompted for a value for test when saving.

I created a folder in the library using the "New Folder" button. Was prompted for the folder name but that is all. Looking at display list, folder has no value against test column. All looks fine!

How are you creating the folder and what sort of library did you create?

Cheers

just as a follow up...i read in some other sites about the folder content type. the particular columns that were showing up were columns I created specifically for certain libraries. when I created them I said to add to all views and add to all content types, which added them to the folder content type for that library apparently. I had to recreate the column and manually add them.
