Online Help Technologies in Vista
In my reading on Microsoft Windows Vista, I have seen a number of references and discussions about the new "User Assistance" functionality. What previous online Help technologies will Microsoft Windows Vista support? Specifically, in addition to the new "User Assistance" format:
1. Will Microsoft Windows Vista include the WinHelp engine and run *.hlp/*.cnt files as was supported in previous versions of Microsoft Windows?
2. Will Microsoft Windows Vista include the HTMLHelp engine and run (.chm files) as was supported in previous versions of Microsoft Windows?
I appreciate your time and consideration,
Mark
According to this, Winhelp will still run under Vista, however Vista itself will not ship with Winhelp engine, you have to download it separately from the download center.

Does anyone know the download link for the Winhlp32.exe that runs properly under Vista RC1? I need to do some testing for some legacy apps. Searching the Microsoft download Center for winhelp or winhlp32 returns nothing.
Yeah sorry about the post. It was obviously premature.
MS Help team seem to be sticking to the "no ship but can download" scenario now.
The WinHelp32.exe that will be download and run on Vista will be I'm sure wrapped in tigt security. Will WinHelp Macros work? Maybe not.
In the Help Group Ginger is in charge of the WinHelp changes. Those who think they really need to test the new WInHelp32 download can feel free to email me and I will pass your request on to Ginger.
