Registration (activation) keys are only valid on the machine from which you registered, for the software copy you are registering, and for the specific user that completed the registration process. You must click the product registration (activation) link from the Help menu inside the product--while you are online--in order to obtain a valid registration key.

If you obtained a registration key from any other source or in any other manner, the registration key will not work.

Go to the Help Menu of the product you want to register, complete the online registration process, and you will definitely be presented with a valid registration key.

Is this mentioned anywhere on the MS site? What user are we talking about? Passport?

Turns out that using the .IMG/ISO to install goes around all the registration headaches.

I used the same computer and the same user to register and it says the key is invalid. I just did it one after the other and never logged out or anything...

Software registration is buggy and apparently needs fixing.

I completely agree. The same thing just happened to me. So what's the next step to register?
