SQL Server express managment console ceased to work

I installed all the 2005 express languages and Visual web too (including SQL server). Then, some days ater, when available i installed the managment console that worked fine. But some days later the managment console ceased toi launch. I only get 2 seconds of hourglas cursor and nothing moore. The only i see in events log is a message about sql browser that tells me suceso: Advertencia

Probably a stupid question but have you tried reinstalling over the top again (SQL Management Studio), Also is the management studio you are installing the express edition as this is still in development and has only just been released as a CTP release. If you are having problems with it you should really also post this information on the feedback website so that the teams can track the problems why it is being developed... But one thing you might want to try is to reset the settings for the TCP Network settings in the sql configuration tools that are installed with sql express, also try turning off and then on the tcp protocols in the same tools.

Thanks, Glenn

To be true, before to post this problem, i tried both but the problem stays the same, Well.. CTP is CTP. Horrible to see something really good and neccesary and then lokk how dissapears LOL! I will post to feedback. Can you tell me the best url where post? I have a lot of problems on my eyes and many time i have a link in the screen but depending on position i can't see it because i have a short vision angle. Thanks.

hi again

OK. I yet reported the problem to 'productfeedback'. Because i installed SQL server express as part of VWD download it was hard to reinstall (i am now in Costa Rica with 52K modem). So i uninstalled SQL, download it separatelly and reinstalled. Then i reinstalled management console. This dont got management console working. But using PCtoos Registry Mechanics i realized that a lot of registry reeferences was incorrect (ie, not target file .dll on disk). Another curious fact is that the managment console launch is "C:\Archivos de programa\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\ssmsee.exe" and seems not to have a MMC extension related (.msc) . Well...this was only to inform..

Hi Rafael,

Could you post more details about how you corrected the problem, you talk about Registry Mechanics. Would appreciate any help at this stage.

Well...

Registry Mechanics dont solved the problem with console but reported a lot of registry errors and inconsistencies related to SQL. This PCTools software is a good tools. I started using it some years ago because mi kids liked to uninstall software by deleting directories GRN! And many software builders wrote very bad install and uninstall code too. RM is a very usefull tool to maintain your registry consistent, clean and compacted too. As a developper you may often have some scum in your registry because testing or beta test. Just look at PCTools site.
