newbie question re site designer application

I recently signed on to office live and registered a domain name and tried to create a website using the site design tools and have been stuck trying to access the menu items through the "page manager". When I click on "edit", a pop-up window opens a new page which is apparently the layout designer; however, none of the menu items work for me - I can's select any options. I don't know what's going on; it appears as if something is blocking the execution of some scripts or activex controls. I've uninstalled and reinstalled ie7 three times and reset the browser to MS defaults.

There is an icon at the bottom with a yellow triangle and an exclamation point and the word "Error". Clicking on the error shows a pop-up window with the following details:

Line 2

Char 33882

Error: "null" is null or not an object

Code: 0

URL:http://<my website's url>

I can access the page from another desktop, but that doesn't help solve the problem. I'm running winxp sp2 if that helps.

thanks in advance for any assistance or information.

michael

Hi Michael,

Thank you for signing up on Office Live!. I am an SDET at Microsoft and am looking after Site Designer features and I would be glad to help you out. Could you please tell me what kind of subscription you have - Basic, Premium or Essentials? Also could you please tell me if the items on the ribbon bar are grayed out?

Try clicking inside one of the zones and let me know if you can see the cursor flash? Are you able to type in text in the Site designer?

It would great if you could tell me the security settings of your browser. For this, goto Tools -> Options. Click on the Security tab and let me know the security setting for Internet zone.

Thanks.

Best Regards,

Aish

I have the exact same problem - exact same. So far after numerous emails I have been unable to get tech support to arrive at the solution. At least I can take comfort in knowing it's a wide spread problem and not just "something to do with your computer settings" as the answer most commonly given when they can't figure something out. Is there any super-guru techie out there that knows how to get the Office Live web site designer program to work? It's terrible to sign up for a domain name that you need right away and then not be able to use it!
