Trouble posting

from 2 of my machines I'm unable to post a new thread or reply to a thread. I enter my question, and when I click the Post button, the web page just seems to refresh itself back to where it was (with my question still typed in)... In other words it goes no where. I'v tried with Alert Me on & off.... no difference.

The only machine that is working is my windows 2K machine... the other 2 machines are XP machines....

Any idea on what to look for?

I was have the same trouble and it turned out to be a hidden proxy between the machine the Internet.

Bypassing that proxy fixed the issue.

Are all the machines on the same network? The proxy could be implemented by your Internet service provider or by your company's network.

It's hidden so it won't be displayed in Internet Options.

testing. ok so this XP machine worked... now I have to figure out why the other XP machine does not work. Dang... would antivirus (Norton) be causing any trouble?

I doubt its an antivirus program. Have you tried using a different browser to test and see if this is a system-wide problem or just a security/network setting in IE?

Keep us posted. I'm unable to duplicate, so I'm guessing it has something to do with individual machine's configuration...either a proxy setting as David suggested, or some sort of security software or setting. Are you using a firewall program other than Windows Firewall? What are your security zone settings set to in IE?

Is this still an issue for you? If I don't hear back in two days, I'm going to go ahead and mark the above answers as correct.

yes, it is still an issue with me on one of my machines (XP SP1).... not this machine (XP SP2).... but on the XP SP1 machine I can post to CodeGuru without problem..... I can also post to
msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups without a problem
also, all three of my machines are behind the same router (thus the same firewall).

lost to explain it

does make me wonder if it has something to do with any fixes SP2 provides that are not in the latest SP1 fixes.

I'm definitely at a loss right now, and I'm completely shooting answers in the dark here...we haven't had any reports of problems like this yet.

Do you have the Internet Connection Firewall enabled on the SP1 machine? The original ICF is much less flexible than the Windows Firewall which comes installed with SP2, and might be causing the problem.

I had to disable my Norton Internet Security to get it to work.

Norton Internet Security seems to be causing some sort of conflict with the forums--this is not the first report of this we've heard. Thanks for reporting this!
