Sure that the top answerers list on the main page is valid?
Looking at the top answerer's page at 15:00 CET I can't see my name.
AFAIK there must be at least 2 posts that got answered. But I am not in the list.
I don't want to be jealous
, but I have the fealing that the list there is not correct.
Also I cannot think that this is really a 24h gliding value. I have the feeling that there is a reset upon a specific time, were all values in this list are droped to 0.
I have the same feeling. I check the list now and then and I am sure that I had two or three questions answered, but I wasn't in the list...
19:35 CET.
I have at least 4 answered threads in the last 24h, maybe 8!
I am not in the list:
12-15-2005 09:20 CET
Again: This can't be!
Makes you wonder whether the monthly top 10 is accurate :).
When is november's top-10 posted anyway?

Now I see. I didn't payed my bribe that I am listed in the top answeres list... SCNR
I agree, it would be nicer for everybody, if they just provide us the information on how's the top-answerers list are generated. I also share the same feeling as you guys

I saw David Kean post a message somewhere that the top-10 on the main page only counts the answers that were marked as such by the original poster.
That might clear things up.
Jelle,
I don't actually remember saying that, but it does make sense so as to stop users from marking their own posts just to get into the top 10.
Thought that was you, David. Hmm maybe it was Paul Domag, you both have these incredible amounts of posts
.

David,
I didnt know that there are members doing that, making posts just to be on top 10. I've seen a few who posts questions and mark their own answer because they solved the problem for themselves, was that counted too?

Even from the point of the original poster: I had at least 2 answered questions. There were some people with 1 answered question!
I can't believe that somebody else marked the question as answered. When the question was made, I gave the answer and I got a third post that tells me that I was right and found my post marked as answer. This in bewteen 2 hours.
And: I never found me in this list when I looked at it going over the main forum page. Even I was in October one of the top 10 answerers. How this? Yes I have to confess that I don't look at this count every 10 minutes, even not every hour and even not every day
.
I agree with martin; I'm certain that I've answered at-least two or three posts marked as "answer" but for 10 hours I been monitoring the top 10 list, my name didn't made on the list while there are others in the list having 1 post marked as "answer".
I thought there was some kind of registration that separate those who answer from those who post questions, and I was thinking that I missed the registration while I'm busy working on my project, until I've seen this post by Martin.
Also, there are posts that are marked "answer"
automatically even without the original poster marking it. I've tested this using some dummy account, posting easy questions, and for some reason there are at-least two or three who responded to the question marked as "answer" even without me marking it (what make it worst is, those response didn't even answered the question correctly).

These are not marked automatically, moderators have rights to mark posts as answered. In cases where the marking is not correct, the original poster can always unmark it as an answer.
There are many people who post questions and get a good answer but don't mark them as such. That is why moderators are granted the rights to scan messages and mark them as answered.
Chris,
First of all, can I ask that you don't post 'dummy' questions. We have enough work at the moment answering 9900 unanswered posts, without you adding to it needlessly.
Second of all, this is part of an email I sent to Jelle yesterday, in which I explain when I mark my own answers as correct:
It depends to the question I’m answering. If I’m 95% sure that the answer I’m giving is correct then I will automatically mark it as the correct answer, If I’m less than that, I go back to it a few days later and if no response has been given then I will mark it as the correct answer. However, I will not mark a question as an answer if: 1 it’s a clarification, 2 if I know the answer I’ve given isn’t correct.
If the asker isn’t happy with your response they can unmark your answer, or if they don’t I will unmark my own answers if it’s not the response they were after.
Also don’t be afraid to unmark other moderator’s answers. Sometimes, I see moderators marking their clarification questions as the correct answer; this is incorrect. If you don’t get a response from a clarification after a couple of months, delete the post.
