PDF Compression issue with the ReportViewer
I would like to know if there are plans to fix the issues with huge PDF export when using the ReportViewer in the local mode. As ReportServer is not an option for us, I was wondering if you guys already fixed it or even if that is being considered at all.
Thanks and appreciate a prompt reply from MSFT

When operating in local mode, PDF files exported by ReportViewer are not compressed. This will be addressed in the next version (i.e., there are no plans to support compression in a service pack.) In the current version the only way to get compressed PDF files is to use remote mode and export via Report Server. Note that there will be a free edition of Report Server included in SQL Server Express.
Can you clarify on what you mean by 'next version' ? Will there be a web release of report viewer or you mean the next release of Visual Studio whatever it is called. Any kind of report server is not an option for an ISV like us and would like another rev of reportviewer. We want to keep our installs as minimum as possible.
I don't get the idea behind not having the PDF compression as that defeats the very usability where the reports are e-mailable.
Thanks
It's been a long time since the last post and I was wondering if MS team has done something about this issue.
I agree with SivaS that export to PDF without compression makes it absolutely unusable.
Our clients are not using SQL Server 2005 and do not even want to consider switching to it, so report server is out of the question.
I would appreciate a quick response since we are in the middle of project and now reconsidering the usage of MS reporting technology at all.
Too bad we didn't know about this limitation earlier L
BTW exported file has 22.6MB while after printing same file to PDF it's 147KB.
best regards
I've already given up to ReportViewer. Too much uncorrected bugs, too many unanswered questions, too tied to Visual Studio Releases, lack of a free end user rdlc designer. At the beginning i was very impressed, now i say goodbye.
Its not that BIG of deal, there are a number of work arounds and for most apps Report Server is what you should be using anyways. I would be interested in seeing the MS reporting roadmap if that even exists at this point.
