Vista SDK DVD Install problem

Jason,

I received your Vista SDK on DVD. Thank you very much.

I can see only one file on the DVD. It is README.T and it contains:

This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system

that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification.

I’m running XP Pro (NTFS). Why wouldn’t it be able to read this DVD?

Are there special steps for installing the SDK from the DVD that I am not aware of?

Thank you,

Bob

Jason,

Well, you never responded to my second round of emails or this last post. Disappointing...

Just FYI:

I recently received some DVD's from my MSDN subscription one of which was an SDK DVD which contained the Windows Vista SDK (April 2007). This installation was flawless.

Rtlan,

Jason has been out of the office. He'll be back soon and hopefully can respond to your posts.

I apologize for the slow reply. As Lori mentioned, I've been out of the office and have just recently returned.

When you browse to the DVD drive, is the only file shown the .t file? If so, it sounds like you simply have a defective DVD. When I insert the DVD into my drive and browse it, I see the following files:

/Licence

/Setup

autorun.inf

ReleaseNotes.htm

setup.exe

Simply double-clicking the setup.exe should get setup started for you, if the autorun function doesn't launch it.

If you have a defective DVD, I'll get a new one in the mail to you right away. If I'm misunderstanding your problem, please let me know.

Thanks!

It seems you both are correct. The DVD is all fine. It just seems that we are missing some files that are required to show the DVD Contents. The DVD is fine, cause if you boot the System using the DVD in which you only see the text file, it will still be able to install complete OS. I have the MSDN copy with me and I have a Dual Boot System. DVD contents show up fine in XP but not in 2003 which clearly tells me that I am missing some Updates. But what are they exactly...I have no clue...Sad. Also, surprisingly 2003 running in my VMWare does NOT show the files in MSDN ISO that I downloaded which means these updates got installed after installing the OS.

XP only has support for some versions of UDF by default. Usually installing CD burning software like Roxio or Nero will provide support for other versions.

There is a KB article here.
