First Day User, Question

I have one question I hope you can answer , before I actually set out to purchase some of the hardware needed for the robot.

Will my Bot always need to be hooked up to the computer to run ? I would love to develop using the VPL , however, it is my intention to eventually design a bot that can operate independantly. Can I somehow use VPL and a microcontroller, or would I forever be connected by a wire?

Thank you very much.

There are several options to consider.

  • The wireless tethered option, such as the LEGO NXT, which allows you to run an MSRS service on the PC which controls the robot wirelessly.
  • A robot running embedded XP.
  • MSRS 1.5 May preview allows MSRS to be run on a CE device such as the iRobot Create Sumo robot with iCop board [1]. VPL does not yet work for the CE platform, so for now you would need to use one of the .Net programming languages.
