Strange MSN and Live Messenger Problem

Hi All,

New here but was wondering if any of you have any ideas of what I can try to fix my problem I am having.

I am using the latest build of live messenger, all the features work fine however I encounter problems every day after non specific periods of use. Basically I can be talking to someone and not be getting any messages back; the troubleshooting says that I am still connected to the service, and that all is well, people trying to send messages to me at this time are told they are unable to do so. If I then sign out it takes a long time, and then informs me that my conversations could not be started. A lot of the time I am unable to change my status as well, yet even when I cannot send/receive messages I can still share files via the service. This as stated can take place after a few minutes or after an hour or so.

I have tried numerous things such as restarting and resetting my router, changing to various versions, reconfiguring firewall, turning firewall off, running in admin and XP sp2 compatibility mode (as I am using Vista Business, to note this occurs on both my x86 and x64 versions). I have tried on XP, and have yet to encounter the problem, so it looks like it’s a Vista problem.

Does anyone have any ideas of what the problem could be, even using the Windows Firewall produces the same problem, what I can’t understand is that messenger states I am still connected when the problems occur which seems to be enforced by the fact I can still share files etc, any help would be great.
