Need help with Xbox 360 wireless controller
Hi!
I lately found out that you can connect your xbox 360 controller to PC. Although I have a wireless controller. Without wanting to buy the wireless reciever I looked for other methods. I the found out that you can connect your wireless controller to the PC using the recharging cable for the rechargable battery pck, although this hasn't been working for me. When I press the Xbox guide button it flashes and flashes but the computer isn't picking up on this. Can anyone help!?
Thanks!
Paul
Hi Paul.
Are you running Vista or XP? Do you see a USB message when you plug it in to the PC? Does it try to install drivers?
I think the charging cable only supplies power -- It doesn't actually connect the device to the USB hub.
Thanks for taking the time to reply!
I'm running Windows XP, it's USB so the icon for installing a driver comes up. I don't have a disc for the controller. So I'll either have to buy a wired controller or the receiver?
I stand corrected. The controller is discoverable over the USB charger.
However, I was not able to get it working last night, even after downloading drivers.

I tried "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows" and "Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows". I suspect the device ID's are slightly different, and these drivers did not work.
I'm afraid your back to the original options of purchasing either an "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows" or the Wireless Gaming Receiver.
