List of adapters
Can someone please list some basic information about the adapters available in R2?
Which are new and which ones are updated?
We all know about the RFID and EDI but are there others? Like TCP or even RS232?

Other than RFID and EDI, there will be 7 new WCF adapters that will allow BizTalk to communicate with WCF applications:
WCF-NetTcp, WCF-WsHttp, WCF-NetMsmq, WCF-BasicHttp, WCF-NamedPipes, WCF-CustomIsolated, WCF-Custom
WSS (Windows Sharepoint Services) adapter will now start supporting SharePoint Server 3.0 in addition to SharePoint Server 2.0.
Could you clarify about the WSS adapter?
When you say that it will be supporting SharePoint Server 3.0 do you mean that it will support Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007 (MOSS) or do you mean that it will be supporting Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0.
MOSS is based on WSS 3.0 so hopefully it would mean that MOSS is supported if WSS 3.0 is, but is that so?
thanks!
WSS adapter will support only Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.
It hasn't been tested with Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007 hence not supported.
Strange, how does that fit with the introductory posting in the general Biztalk 2006 R2 forum that says:
Platform Alignment: BizTalk Server 2006 R2 features improved alignment with 2007 Microsoft Office system and Windows Vista, including key .NET Framework 3.0 technologies such as WF and WCF. This alignment will help customers access LOB data, as well as system-to-system or supply-chain processes from within their Office System applications (like SharePoint Server, InfoPath and Dynamics).
I would read the above as saying that Biztalk is expected to work more closely with Office including MOSS. What is that paragraph refering to then if not the adapter?

The improved alignment with MOSS is a result from tight integration of MOSS with WCF-based LOB adapters (BizTalk .NET LOB Adapters). For instance, Sharepoint Server would be able to consume LOB data directly using the Biztalk .NET Adapter for SAP, without going through BizTalk Server for simple scenarios. The first phase of these LOB Adapters would be for SAP, Siebel and Oracle DB.
The goal of these WCF-based adapters is to provide uniform programmatic access to LOB systems for a variety of access patterns -- including message-based, BI or portal access.
Thanks Sriram. Interesting information.
I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around Microsoft saying that using the latest and greatest Biztalk Sharepoint adapter is not supported when used with Microsoft's latest and greatest Sharepoint Server.
Enterprises will only get support if they use the adapter with the free Windows Sharepoint Services but not when they shell out for the full Sharepoint Server?

I believe this is under review at this point and being ratified.
As essentially the two worlds are the same (Moss + WSS) with respect to the BTS Adapter + corresponding BTS Adapter Webservice.
I think it should be made clear that neither RFID or EDI are *adapters*.
BizTalk RFID is a seperate product - not an adapter.
EDI in R2 is implemented using pipelines - not adapters.
If you install MOSS first and extend the site, then when configuring BizTalk R2, it will correctly detect you have the required components and load properly. I'm running integration between MOSS & R2 on the last public beta bits.
