Map Boundaries // Using my own maps
In the SDK, I can find many ways to return a pair of coordinates (lat, long), but is there a way to return just the latitude, or just the longitude of a point (most likely the center...)? If so, how? (I want to make it so the user cannot stray too far from the starting point, so I am trying to make it so that cant go past certain latitude and longitude boundaries)
Also, how should I go about using the VE control to make a map of my own images? I have a map, which is actually a map of a RPG world, and would like to make it easy browseable. I thought I could do this relatively easily in VE, but it is nearly impossible to take just the controls of the application, and use them for a different image, without getting a whole bunch of other stuff showing up from the world map.
Is there an easier way to do this? Right now I am loading up a map, and trying to make is so that the user cannot go outside the boundaries of my image, or zoom too far in or out, so that they dont see the world map. This is a bit too imprecise for me it seems, and I am guessing that there is a better way to do this.
Thanks so much for any help you can offer,
Cecchi MacNaughton
P.S. It would also work if I could just add a plain black layer above the map, and below my image... that way it would appear to be my image on a black background. Is this possible? The only thing is that while the user zooms, shape layers tend to disappear for a moment and you can see the world map.

Sounds good, but is there any way to make it so it doesn't show the real world tiles when you zoom in and out? I think I might try just scaling it down a bit and hiding it in the middle of the ocean, that way I can trap the user in the pacific, so when the tiles are loading it will just look like a navy blue background, and I will set it so that the person can't pan outside of a bounding box.
Thanks for the help!

Edit: "http://www.zoomatron.com/Images.aspx" is basically my goal, but it only wants to work in IE, and on all the images but the first, you can zoom out and see the world. I don't know how they did that on the first one, but they managed to get a grey background. Maybe they had some extra tiles on there. No matter. Thanks again!
VE is a bit overkill, I agree, but the image
is a map, and I will be placing routes and such on it. I also looked at those links you gave me. Is seadragon available yet? That site was a bit ambiguous... And I wasn't really sure what soapbox had to do with my request... I didn't give it a full look, but it appeared to be something similar toYouTube?
Thanks for the tips! I also found PhotoSynth while looking around on that page, and that is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Amazing!
