Problems with Orcas June 2007 VHD Operation

1. Downloaded and created the .vhd/.vmc files which installed without problems under VS 2005 RS running under WS 2003 R2 along with two virtualized Vista VMs. One runs runs Orcas Beta 1 and the other VWDX June 2007 CTP and Entity Framework June 2007 CTP without unexpected issues.

2. Connected the VM to the development domain and changed Administrator account to Domain Admins account with no problem.

3. Launched Orcas June 2007, changed the the startup option to last project and encountered Package Load Failure "Package 'Team Edition for DB Professionals' has failed to load properly (Guid = {... }) error on that change and every time I close VS 2008.

4. Installed the Entity Framework June 2007 CTP without incident other than occasional Package Load Failure messages, followed by the sample files from CodePlex.

5. Ran EFLinqJuneCTPSamples Web site. Attempting to execute any sample page throws an 'The underlying provider failed on open. [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Shared Memory Provider: No process is on the other end of the pipe.' exception. SQL Server Express is running and Shared Memory, Named Pipes and TCP/IP are enabled.

6. While the exception helper is open Server Explorer displays the NORTHWND_101.MDF instance and enables opening its tables to display in the grid.

7. Installed SSMSX, removed the read-only attribute from the BasePage.cs file and the .MDF and .LOG files, copied the .MDF and LOG files to the SSX instance's ...\Data folder and attached the files to the instance as Northwind. Changed the connstr variable in BasePage.cs accordingly and saved the changes. This solved the problem reported in step 5.

8. The Package Load Failure messages have decreased in frequency. (May be 0 now.)

Hope this helps anyone having similar problems.
