PhotoGallery Trying to install

I've had to reinsatll my computer 3 times in the last 3 months and each time after a few weeks of no problems I start getting a message at login for windows initializing PhotoGallery. Then it says path for files not found. Photogallery, as i know it was already running. and now it isn't.

When opening picture or video files, I get the same trying to initialize message. After 2-3 cancels it goes away, and i'm able to view all the files in photogallery.

Any help would be great.

I'm using windows xp

till then...

Al.

im afraid these forums are only for software development.

Best place to ask is to perhaps post in the photogallery newsgroup/communities. Who developed Photogallery?

Some guy in here mentioned that that photo gallery was a part of an HP printer. I have the HPSC printer series and when I had a request for an HP update, I did not know that this particular update which had everything to do with Windows Vista would effect that message that everybody has been getting. I have gone into Add Remove programs just now and gotten rid of EVERYTHING from HP update and as I am writing this, I am not getting any messages having to do with the installation of the Photo Gallery and so apparently what the guy had posted about that message having to do with HP printers was very accurate.

Go into add remove programs and get rid of every update from HP and you will not get this error message any more. You will enjoy peace while browsing once again.

Hi,

I was getting the same error 1706. Apparently I deleted something by mistake. Whenever I started my computer I got the windows Installer looking for photogallery.

I went on the HP site and found out that you should reboot your system with the original HP disk in you CD ROM drive. When I rebooted it loaded what it needed and I haven't got the error. It was looking for the photogallery.msi file. I did a search of the HP disk "dir *.msp /s /p" and it was on the disc. Hope this helps !!

This nightmare started happening to me too. PhotoGallery would try to install, would ask for the original CD and when I tried to cancel, would repeatedly try to install. Eventually, after trying to cancel enough times, a window popped up quoting Error 1706 and then a Microsoft.NET Framework pops up declaring "An unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application." I can move the window all the way to the bottom and out of sight, but it pops back up in the center of the page every time I tried to restart the computer. Now I cannot restart. I have to push the on and off button.
I tried all the above suggestions; deleted HP updates: didn't work. Rebooted with original HP disk. Didn't work.
Can anyone help?

Okay, I have resolved the problem myself.
Although I deleted all HP updates and rebooted with my HP printer software, I had not considered checking my HP digital camera. So I plugged it in and searched on My Computer and PhotoGallery was part of the Camera software.
So I just inserted my HP camera CD rom into the CD drive and it kicked in and the Initiating PhotoGallery window flashed a couple of times and finished initializing almost immediately. And the window went away and has never resurfaced yet.

I had the same problem installing a HP PhotoScan G4050.

While on the phone with someone named Rashmi, I stumbled on this site and read Suir's posting.

It was a life saver. All I had to do is reboot the computer with the install disk in th drive and the PhotoGallery file was installed and the problem went away. Thanks so much.

Hello Suir, I myself have done exactly what you have done! The only really big thing that has changed is HP replaced my 1610 ALL-IN-ONE scanner, copier, with a 1600 ALL-IN-ONE. Just was wondering your thoughts of any "tentacle's" left over from my 1610 still running around? And you are very precise in describing our problem! As I am somewhat still "new" at this. But I am down to getting it canceled out with 3 clicks! Smile

I have not had ANY problems with that stupid PhotoGallery window ever since I slipped in my HP Digital Camera Install disk. I suppose that if anyone out there sees that PhotoGallery Install window popping up all the time, you should bring out all your HP install disks (Scanner, Printer, Camera, etc) and slip them all into your CD drive. That should make the window go away. Remember, it didn't work for me when I just inserted the HP Printer Installation CD. I had to reinsert all of my HP product disks for the stupid thing to go away.
