How to protect a wireless network?

Ok, so all these support websites say it's so easy to protect a wireless network. they would be pretty much right except for one detail, they dont tell you how to protect a network, they tell you how to protect a profile. while setting up the profile, enable wep security, enter the password blah blah blah and yeah you've got the profile protected, whilst you're network still appears unsecured and anyone can connect to it! can someone please tell me how to protect the NETWORK? thanks

To protect a wireless network, you need to go to the management page of your wireless router (or access point) and enable security (WEP/WPA/WPA2) there.

When you set up a profile on a PC, you don't change the configurations of the wireless network, instead you tell the PC how to connect to the network. A PC connects to a wirelss network only when the configurations in the profile match those of the network.
