i am trying to upgrade my SQL 2005 sp2 to Katmai CTP -3.
But during the installation it is saying SQL DB services and workstation components already installed.
Any idea do we need to uninstall SQL 2005 completely before starting the KATMAI INSTALLATION.
I tried that option of completely uninstalling and installing only Katmai.But still same issue.

So first upgrade is not supported yet - so you can't upgrade to Katmai CTP3.
You should be able to install SxS with 2005 - are you saying Katmai install is failing in this scenario? Can you please send me the logs?

Finally I was able to install Katmai –CTP3 today .
I detached my DB and uninstalled Workstation components and DB engine. After that I started the katmai installation and it went successfully.
After the installation I attached the DB and that too was successful.
Please let me know the preparation steps I have taken is fine or do I need to take care of anything else?
Last time my uninstallation of Workstation components and DB services was not successful. I used the ARPWrapper.exe /Remove command to remove and then continued the installation.
The steps you took are fine.
Are you still having problem uninstalling? can you include your logs?
