Cannot install VS 2005... UDF ISO-13346 issue

Hey everyone,

I'm having the devil of a time installing the VS trial version (team package) on my xp pro machine. I've been fiddling with it for the last 2 days and can't get the DVD to even recognize the UDF portion of the disc at all, which is where all the installation files are. argggg... I've tried extracting it with ISOBuster, which fails almost 1/3 of the way through. I've tried ripping it to an image with Nero and fails at 69%... And those are the only two programs that I have that will even recognize that there is a UDF partition on there... Explorer is clueless to its presence.

Could anyone help me? I would sooooo greatly appreciate.

Thanks,
Tim

I've noticed that others have had the same issues, but all of the advice I've found so far is geared toward the downloaded DVD images and not the actually physically installation DVD itself. (That's why I tried ripping it to an image file, because, theoretically, if I created and imaged file, then I could try what everyone else was doing. But it didn't rip. So, that's a moot point.)

The message I get is:

This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system
that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification.

Thanks,
Tim

what OS are you using?

Also if at all possible, try updating the DVD drive firmware - some DVD drives need an update to recognize newer formats

As well as this, where was the DVD obtained from? was it a downloaded ISO image from MSDN subscriptions?

I'm running Windows xp pro, sp2, with all the updates being current.

I tried updating the firmware and it didn't actually do any good.

I got the dvd from Microsoft actually. I broke down and ordered the trial, since I have a crappy ISP that won't let me have unlimited bandwidth. So, to download it would take prolly until studio 2007 is out lol.

If anyone has any suggestions i would gladly bow down and kiss feet and stuff...

thanks everyone.

Have you tried to see if this happens on another computer?

Have you tried to use, for example, the latest version of Nero to create an image of the DVD and save it to the computer?

Although the workaround in my previous post works, it did not make sense that this problem would occur in some m/cs and not all ( I found that these DVDs can be seen on other m/cs running Windows XP home or Windows 2003 (all support the same UDF version)

So I did some more research and found this KB article

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;320553

I checked my m/c and found registry entry for UpperFilters (for InCd) . After deleting the entry and rebooting, the contents of the DVDs became visible.

Hope this fixes the problem for everyone.

This software is pretty good for extracting data from iso files:
