VS 2k5 CR10.2 Deploy=Error in Unknown.Rpt

Dev Machine is Win XP Pro Sp2.

Server is Win2000, IIS5

With CR9 and CR10.2 installed on it, both installed via differenet website install packages using the correct MSM files.

ANY report file from blank with no database to sql table based or stored proc based causes the following error.

This has been posted before, and i've tried anything that was posted that anyone reported as fixing it, so far nothing has changed it. I've checked Security settings (set the application to run as admin, tried impersonating admin, tried giving access to the rpt to everyone) Nothing has changed the error message let alone fixed the issue. I'm tempted to scrap crystal all together and tell all my clients to demand the products they use do so as well, the quality of the .net versions is ***. The answer 'upgrade' doesn't cut it with me. If this is the quality of the applications they write, no way am I going to PAY any money directly to them. I can't even 'try' XI R2 to see if it fixes the issue, but even if it did i don't have any NEED of it, I just need the product I paid for to work.

Amen brother. The implementation of Crystal Reports bundled with VS2005 absolutely sucks. The report designer is the dumbest designer I've ever seen and the whole implementation seems riddled with bugs. This is obviously an attempt to make sure we shell out for the upgrade with no assurance it will be any better. PowerBuilder is starting to look like a real option.

CR sucks. Reports that worked fine in our product with previous VS versions and could be made to work in 2005 have suddenly stopped working.

BO/whoever has no answer and no longer even supports the VS2005 version of CR. How nice, sucker zillions of us into using it, then stop supporting it. Jerks! (they likely droppped support in anticipation of Vista shipping, so they wouldn't have to support that trainwreck.)

Now we're stuck with a reporting solution that is ginormously complex, uglier than sin to use, is broken on an ever-increasing number of deployment platforms, and for which the providers' only answer is to spend ten of thousands for licensed versions and training and support, and then roll-up obscenely expensive runtime licensing into the price of our product.

I personally hope the greedy so-and-so's go broke, and may they be infested with the fleas of a thousand camels!

For ourselves we're investigating the .Net/VS ReportViewer control in localmode as an alternative, and it looks promising. We've yet to fully rollup and deploy a POC yet, so we may have to reconsider that decision as well.

Are you loading the report in the page_init event? I remember i was getting something similar when I loaded the report in page_load.

You are not correct with saying that BO no longer supports the VS 2005 version of CR. I'm not sure where you heard this. This product is still fully supported by Business Objects.

I received thesame error message then i browse and found out i am not the only one and since last year for that matter. The good news is that i have a solution. The problem is that the user your website is running in doesn't have access to the CR file you're trying to load infact can't access the folders. so i first add it to the C root drive with only the default permission and it worked but this is a potential security problem so i removed it and add to the inetpub folder it worked then something happened i removed the user from inetpub folder hoping to add to wwwroot folder and has i was about to do that decided to show the earlier problem of UNKNOWN.RPT to my colleague and voala!! it refused to come rather the report is working fine as if it never occurred i guess my colleague will think i didn't do it properly before. I guess maybe some dll needs to load first but with access to the root drive.
