Reassociating MPP files to a new Team Server

We have performed a hardware to hardware Team server migration. All seems to work well except for the existing MPP and excel files.

With the existing MPP files I was able to unassociated them, by clearing the work item ID and the revision fields. I then selected “Choose Team Project”, now I can get work items but they appear at the bottom of my project worksheet.

I really don’t want to reorganize the MPP file just to be able to get and publish work items. Is there a way to reassociate the existing task back to a WorkItem still on the server? Cutting and pasting tasks loses the Work Item ID value. Manually entering the value produces an error:This field is read-only.

Today there is no way to reassociate a project plan with a server if the server url changes for some reason (port change, for ex.). We realize that this is painful and are looking at providing a tool that could allow you to do that. For now, the only option is to restructure your plan by moving items manually.Another alternate, if you don't care about reusing the same work items, is to publish the plan after clearing the ID and Rev fields- which will create new work items. But if you need the history information from the previous work items and don't want to create a whole bunch of new work items, the only option is to reorganize the plan.
