Upgrading to SQl Server Reporting Services 2005

Hi,
We are planning to install SQL 2000 for reporting on our data warehouse. Can anyone advise on the problems on moving from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 at a later stage.

My Questions:
1) Is SQL-2000 for Reporting Services going to be obsolete soon and loose support.
2) What is the cost of upgrading from SQL-2000 to SQL-2005?
3) Will this upgrade have any implications on our existing servers.

Please help me, am a bit lost.

Thanks,
Nitto

Hi Nitto.

To answer some of your questions:
1) For information on MS support policy you should reference:
http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx?rdpath=fh;en-us;lifecycle

2) To upgrade, you will need to obtain a license for SQL Server 2005 for each computer in your RS 2000 deployment. SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services can host its report server database in a SQL Server 2000 database server. I don't know what your exact licensing requirements will be. I would consult with your reseller, distributor, or sales rep.

3) Really depends on your configuration. Minimally, if you have RS 2000 deployed on dedicated computers with a dedicated SQL Server 2000 database service for the report server database, upgrading RS to RS 2005 should not impact your other servers. If it were me, I would try it in a test environment just to make sure ;-). If you obtain one of the CTP releases of SQL Server 2005, the Books Online will include a discussion of upgrade considerations.
