Intranet development

I have been asked to develop a software for an office with several networked computers. I need some pointers for developing an application to be run on an Intranet where the database (SQL Server 2000) is on one system. I will be developing in either VB.NET or C#.

Is programming for this kind of setup any different than programming for a single user? I would appreciate it if anyone gave me some pointers or links to websites with information about such a type of development.
