Can't Post in these Forums?

I have noticed quite a few posts about people having trouble posting in the forums. People have been saying that after they are done typing, they click "Post" and the "flying Windows" logo in Internet Explorer begins moving, but nothing ever happens. This behavior occurs in both Firefox and Internet Explorer. "Preview" works however.

If you are having similar problems, please email me directly at joemorel AT microsoft.com. We can work through some troubleshooting steps and try to figure out why this is happening to so many people.

If this used to happen for you, but you somehow fixed it, please reply with what you did here!

Thanks!

I think it's Spybot Search & Destroy that was causing the problem. Not sure. Still investigating.

Hi Joe,

I use FireFox a lot too, and here's the problems I think that requies attention:

1. When you click "Preview" button in the editor page and then click "Edit" to return to the editor page, you'll loose everything you've typed. I usually copy-paste all the text in the editor to notepad before I click the preview button.

2. The "Alert Me" and "This post contains a code sample" checkboxes are randomly disappearing from the Editor page, pressing "Refresh" number of times to make the checkbox appear.

Regards,

It still does not work in Firefox [with spybot ininstalled and Norton Internet security disabled]. The ability to post using IE6 is erratic. It succeeds after many tries.

Hi,

I had the same problem, tried to post for several days. The preview button worked indeed fine.

After reading this post, i decided to disable my firewall and i could post. Not the best solution but at least i'm able to post again :-)

I tryed to disable my Norton Personal Firewall, (as suggested above) but didn't work as well. Then I dissabled the whole Norton Internet Security and I could post at last!

I hope this clue helps to find and fix the problem.

Cheers,

Jordi

I am able to post with Norton internet firewall turned on. Since the ability to post is intermittent it is probably something else.

Edit: I posted this message after clicking "preview" once and "post" eight times.

First of, Chris, I'm going to report the weird behavior with Firefox to the forums team, but I really want to concentrate on the posting problems. So, some people have reported that turning off Norton Internet Security definitely gets rid of the problem, but others aren't running it.

Can everyone that's been having trouble with this check their machines and make sure you don't have two firewalls enabled at the same time? Also, check and see if you have an antispyware program that might be blocking javascript on web pages.

Hey Joe,

On my side, I'm using only the firewall from Norton. XP's one is disabled. No javascript is blocked on my IE as well.

How many people that are having trouble are trying to copy and paste formatted text from Word, Visual Studio, or Internet Explorer when you are having trouble?

I have some good news for you.

I used to have this problem in the previous version of the forum and I no longer have it in this version at all.

Also I've never used spybot or search and destroy. Since I have a router with NAT translation I don't use a firewall.

BUT... I still have this problem with incredible regularly in the bug reporting system and cannot report bugs. To report a bug, I must depend upon the kindness of Microsoft employees.

hi, If Norton NIS user could go to log viewer, you could see that it was blocked under "Content Blocking", it just flagged as Ad (advertisment) and specified the reason being ... "/banners/" .. so diable only the firewall wouldn't work unless you disable the ad blocking

I have tried to set the ad blocking to allow the forums to have free-flow but still not working, will try again and report anything that is working, I am now enabling NIS but just disable the privacy control option, if you could see this post, it works!

cheers!
