contradictory installation instructions

In my office/work PC, I had installed from downloaded file
"Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation Beta 1.2.exe"
somewhen from November, 2005.

Today I started to install "it" at home PC and observe that download page
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=E27AA8DC-A029-4836-AC59-6B4805DF42FA&displaylang=en
contains the download dated by 12/20/2005

What are the differences?
Whether it is worth to "upgrade"?
And if not will I have compatibility between my office/work PC installation (from somewhen November's installation download) and home PC installation (dated by 12/20/2005)?

The current download page sentences are rather confusing to me:
"If you are a WinFX customer, you should download the WinFX December CTP Runtime Components here. Note: you must install the WinFX Runtime Components before installing the Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation."
I couldn't understand - is it obligatory to install WinFX Runtime components in order to use WWF extensions?

The installation succeded without WinFX components (at home PC). Though earlier I thought it was a prerequisite but currently when I attempted to install WinFX Runtime components (also dated with new to me 12/19/2005) I had received a notification that I should first uninstall WWF (should I? in order to use it)

Then this download page contains a phrase:
"There are two downloads on this page:"

Well, it has one download by a "Download" button in the beginning/top of the page and 5 downloads at the end/bottom of the page "What Others Are Downloading"

Concerning that enigmatic another download or differences between those 2 downloads:
The second mentioned download is described as necessary for designing workflows and the first one for running workflows. The description of the first download contains the phrase: " NOTE: The runtime component download is temporarily unavailable"

The "Microsoft Pre-Release Software WinFX Runtime Components - December Community Technology Preview (CTP)" download page

"The WinFX Runtime Components December CTP enables developers to continue experimenting with early builds of these technologies[one of them is WWF], get acquainted with the development experience..."

Though I couldn't understand why WWF extensions installation succeded without any run-time components installation

Can u decipher me what downloads to install:
1)
to only design WFs,
2)
to only run WFs
2a)
to design with standalone workflow designer (control)
3)
to do both 1) and 2)?

and how can I mix installations from November and December ?
whether the installation from November is compatible with that from December (i.e can I bring the VS 2005 project from one PC to another)?

Should I uninstall and reinstall all (from November, nad, it seems, from December) in order to use, e.g., WinFX Development Tools
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=D1336F3E-E677-426B-925C-C84A54654414&displaylang=en

Again, I am also confused with
"Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation Beta 1.2.exe" from 12/20/2005 instructions
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=E27AA8DC-A029-4836-AC59-6B4805DF42FA&displaylang=en
:
"Visual Studio is not required for this installation. This will install the neccessary platform components as well as some elements of the Windows Workflow Foundation SDK. "

And waht features of SDK are not installed and why? What is the sense in VS extensions without VS?

Hello Guennadi,

There is really only one version of Windows Workflow Foundation available now as far as functionality goes. WF Beta 1 which has a file build number of 3203.3.

The binaries were re-released to work with Visual Studio 2005 release code as WF Beta 1.2. The file buld number for WF Beta 1.2 is 3203.56.

There are two downloads availabe for WF Beta 1.2. They are identical except they have different instructions for installing depending on whether you have with Office "12" Beta 1 or the WinFX December CTP. It doesn't matter which download you get.

Finally there are planned to be three parts to the download. This is what is talked about in the instructions you have read. For developers trying out WF Beta 1.2 now you should just install the third one which includes the other two.

  1. The redistributable WF runtime
  2. The developer SDK for WF (doesn't have anything depending on Visual Studio)
  3. The Visual Studio 2005 extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation

WF Beta 2 is planned for release in January 2006 at which time you should plan to stop using Beta 1.

Regards,
Paul
