Entity Data Model Wizard template not visible in Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2

I have installed Visual Studio "Orcas" Beta 2 (Standard edition) along with the "Astoria" CTP & trying to add a local data service. The "Add New Item link" in Visual Studio does not contain a template for the Entity Data Model Wizard. This option is missing.

Can someone please let me know what are the list of packages to be installed. What am I missing? Does the wizard only supported in Beta 1?

Thank you.

The current CTP of Astoria is tied to Orcas Beta 1 and is currently not supported on Orcas Beta 2. The CTP representing our prototyping effort in this space and in parallel we are building out a production version of Astoria which encorporates feedback we get from the CTP version. We are investigating releases an update of the Astoria CTP that works with Orcas Beta 2, but at the same time, we are looking to make the right balance between getting our early thinking out there and moving the production version of the project alone. Once we make a call in this area we will post to our team blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/astoriateam.

Also, regarding the Entity Framework not in Beta 2, please see this post: http://blogs.msdn.com/adonet/archive/2007/08/03/entity-framework-beta-2.aspx

Thanks,

I realised that the following 3 items are need to be installed to work with EDM wizard in Orcas Beta 1. Is this correct?

  • LINQ May 2006 CTP Edition
  • ADO.NET vNext August CTP
  • ADO.NET vNext Entity Data Model Designer Prototype, CTP

The second link to the ADO.Net vNext August CTP is currently unavailable for download. Has this download been discontinued? If yes what are the correct packages that I need to install to use the EDM wizard.

    Thanks.

Actually, for beta 1 all you need is Visual Studio Orcas Beta 1 and the Astoria CTP. The links you mention are from previous releases of the LINQ and Entity Framework technologies.
