When following the intructions to install the HR Manager template, all seems to be well until creating the site which creates following error:
This page is not using a valid page layout. To correct the problem, edit page settings and select a valid page layout."
Any clues?

I hope you have created a Collaboration portal site collection, uploaded the HR Manager site template to the site template gallery and then create a sub-site using this template. The error that you are getting is because the HR Manager site uses page layouts specific to collaboration portal site. If you are trying to create the site directly from the site template, then this page layout will not be available for it.
