Data Fields from e-mail templates?

Hi everyone,

i'm writing an outlook app that connects to the crm database and extracts custom entity information. i need help however, with determining how data fields in e-mail templates are extracted by crm? i see that the info is stored as xsl code in the database and that there's a select field which gets queried and the data extracted. and the format of that is "view_name/fieldname". the problem arises however, when the field is a numeric value and it links to another field to get the display value. ie "view_name/fieldname/@display" and sometimes the display value isn't even on the view. does anyone have any idea how crm deals with this?
