In any case, unless you are cloning the machine with SQL 2000, you should not do it anyway. Since they don't support it in the CTP, I would not expect side-by-side to be supported in RTM either. (Which I find a little disappointing.) As for a direct upgrade path, I would find it a little surprising if they would not provide that, given that SQL 2000 is still widely in use, and many will want to go directly to SQL 2008. Then again, how many does really upgrade their installations? Most people seem to prefer to install on a fresh machine (time for new hardware anyway), and then copy databases with detach/attach or backup/restore. And it is possible to restore a backup from SQL 2000 on the July CTP.
