map panning while drawing polygon

I was checking out Live Search and when opening ScratchPad, selecting draw an area tool, the map pans as one draws an area that is not currently displayed in the map view.

Currently I am developing an application that the user draws a polygon shape and it would be great to give the user that added attribute to the drawing function. Problem is I'm not sure how to do this.

I realize that VE version 5 has theVEMap.Pan Method, starting and ending continuous pan, and panning to a specific lat and long. Not sure how this would help solve the problem though.
