Problems with Windows Mail in Vista

I have an interesting problem. Having recently bought a PC with Windows Vista Home Premium I set up Windows Mail for my account and my wife's. Hers works perfectly and connects every time we go online. When we change user to my account I start up Windows Mail and get the following error messages:

An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C0148

and

An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'mail.virgin.net', Server: 'mail.virgin.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C0148

The crazy thing is that it worked perfectly for an hour or so but from the next time I booted the PC until now I have been getting the same error messages. I have checked both our connection details and they are identical. I simply don't understand how hers can work and mine has stopped. Also, sometimes the Inbox shows I have messages and other times it shows none, although the Local Folders on the left side of the screen shows they are still present.

I have imported old messages from my previous PC that used Outlook Express 6 for both my wife and myself and they show in the Imported Folders.

I use McAfee virus protection and am wondering if this could be the cause of the problem, although why it should work fine for my wife and not for me is a mystery.

If anyone know of a solution I'd be pleased to hear it because this problem has got me stumped.

Thanks everyone,

Stuart

Hi!

I got the same problem as you. Vista Mail is working fine for about 10 minutes, then I get the error you mention. When I restart Vista Mail, it will work fine again....

I also have the same problem with the Inbox!

But so far I have no solutions to the problems

I had similar problem, plus my inbox list of messages showed "Windows could not read this folder"

Also every time I started the Windows mail program it showed it was importing messages. There was this box with an "M" in it, so I realized it was the McAfee security program - which is free for 3 months.

Anyway I removed the McAfee security program and it ended all these problems.

This Windows Mail is pure ***...

about 2 months ago I lost all control of my "deleted items" folder. It shows nothing when in the mail program. I can go into the actual folder and delete all the items. The mail still shows some 3000 that aren't really there anymore.

NOW I lost all ability to send my email as 1 item seems to now be currupt and it doesn't exist in th eactual folder so now NOTHING can be sent. I tried all mentioned work-arounds and still nothing. To top it off to export and try and import into another program like Outlook 2003 it can't read NEW "windows mail" mail. ***!!!

NO support from mircosoft and I guess I should just wait until 1st quarter of 2008 for them to get SP1 out with the fix....

I fixed one problem of sending mail by downloading the 'Windows Mail Beta.
