Converting 2D image to 3D

Hi,

I would like to build a simulated model of a building floor contains many partitions.

One alternative which I'm currently checking is "Google SketchUp6 Pro".

Another alternative might be to prepare a sketch of the floor plan using a simple software like MS paint (bmp file), then use a software that is able to construct a 3D model out of this 2D bmp file. Is anyone familiar with such a software?

Any other ideas, please?

Thanks,

Uri.

I thought about an analog problem few days ago. The walls could be constructed with simple boxes, perhaps at runtime. Some kind of plan or map would be necessary to store this and your program would have to load and evaluate this map.

The simplest way I can imagine is to directly store the coordinates and dimensions of the boxes in a text file. One could think up different ways perhaps using existing file formats. So far my thoughts.

What you could also do: on the website of Trevor Taylor you can get a "Maze Simulator". You should perhaps check it out to get new ideas on how to solve your problem.

Thank you Alexander!

Trevor Taylor's MazeSimulator actually does it - you create a 2D bmp file and MSRS presents it as a 3D model.

It's really helpful!
